Building a Mini – Not 1:1 but 1:24 scale

Since I winter in Vancouver away from my Mini, I indulge in my other hobby, slot car building and racing. What better to combine the two with making a 1:24 scale Mini slot car with front wheel drive!

I’m much more capable building in this small scale than the real thing – constructing chassis with steel piano wire, brass tubing and strips, casting resin bodies using silicone molds and making tires from urethane rubber. And you can do all this in the warmth of your basement workshop!

I enjoy the building more these days but it’s great fun to race these cars on routed wood slot car tracks in BC and Manitoba. Here are some tracks I run on and a video with another of my Mini builds.

Minis are great fun, regardless of scale!
